A plastic cup for a Malaysian drink counter is normally a PP or PET disposable cup with a 95mm sealable rim. If you sell bubble tea, fruit tea, iced coffee or any cold drink in Malaysia, the plastic cup is not a detail in your packaging. It is the single most-handled item in your business, it is the thing the customer photographs, and at typical volumes it is bought by the tens of thousands. It is also, per unit, one of the lowest-cost items on your order, which is exactly why almost nobody costs it properly.

What is the difference between a PP cup, a PET cup and a paper cup?

Three materials, three jobs. Every disposable plastic cup and paper cup on a Malaysian drink counter is one of them, and getting the choice wrong is the most expensive mistake in the category, because a cup that cracks or clouds is a disposable cup you throw away before it ever reaches a customer.

A PP cup is polypropylene. PP cups are the workhorse of the Malaysian bubble tea counter. PP is slightly flexible rather than brittle, it tolerates warm liquid better than PET, and it takes a heat seal cleanly, which is why every sealed milk tea you have ever bought came in one. PP is normally translucent rather than glass-clear.

A PET cup is polyethylene terephthalate, and PET cups are the clear plastic cup most people picture. It is noticeably clearer and glossier than PP, which makes it the better choice when the drink itself is the display: layered fruit teas, jelly desserts, anything where you want the customer to see through the wall of the cup. PET is stiffer and more brittle, and it is a cold-drink material.

A paper cup is paperboard with a food-grade lining. It insulates, which plastic does not, so it is the hot-drink material. It is also considerably more expensive per cup, which is covered further down.

The short version for a drinks counter: if the plastic cup gets sealed by a machine, you want PP. If the drink is the display, you want PET. If the drink is hot, you want paper rather than plastic.

Which plastic cup lid fits which cup?

Choosing a plastic cup lid is the question that costs people money, and in this category it has a clear answer, because every cup and every lid publishes its rim diameter in the product name.

Diameters as published in the product names on happypopper.net on 19 August 2026. Eight of the nine PP cups share the 95mm rim, which is the Malaysian bubble tea standard.

Every other plastic cup in the range is a genuine system: plastic cups with lids that were designed to go together. One rim size, three closure options, and the choice between them is about what the drink needs rather than what fits. Matching lids are the whole point of a 95mm standard.

Dome lid, strawless lid or sealing film?

Once the diameter matches, the plastic cup lid decision is about what the drink needs. There are three options here and they are not interchangeable.

Sealing film is the bubble tea default. A cup sealing machine presses a film across the 95mm rim, the customer punches a straw through it, and nothing spills on the way home. At RM 0.016 per cup it is also by a wide margin the cheapest closure on this list. It needs a machine, which is the catch.

The PET dome lid (PK-T0017) leaves headroom above the rim, which is the point of it. If your drink has cheese foam, whipped cream or a pile of toppings sitting proud of the cup, a flat lid crushes it and a dome lid does not.

The PET strawless lid (PK-T0018) has a moulded sip opening, so the customer drinks straight from the lid. It removes the straw from the transaction entirely, which matters both for cost and for the growing number of Malaysian outlets moving away from straws.

What does a plastic cup cost in Malaysia?

Plastic cup price is quoted per packet, per roll or per hundred by almost every supplier, which is why the per-cup column below is the one that matters. Here is the full range as listed on 19 August 2026, Ex Tax and subject to change.

Three price relationships worth knowing about

Reading that plastic cup price table carefully turns up three things that run against what a buyer would assume. We are reporting them because they affect what you should order, and we are not explaining them, because Happypopper has not published a reason and guessing would be worse than useless.

At 16oz, the ripple cup is cheaper than the plain cup. PK-T0005 ripple works out at RM 0.088 per cup and PK-T0014 plain at RM 0.106. The textured cup is 17 percent cheaper than the smooth one, which is the reverse of how these usually price.

At 22oz, that flips. PK-T0015 plain is RM 0.173 and PK-T0006 ripple is RM 0.196, so here the plain cup is the cheaper one by 12 percent. The relationship between plain and ripple is not consistent across sizes, so check it per size rather than assuming a rule.

The U cup carries a large premium. PK-T0007, the round-bottom U cup at 16oz, is RM 0.190 per cup against RM 0.106 for the plain 16oz at the same 95mm rim. That is 79 percent more for the same volume. It is a different mould and a different look on the counter, and whether that is worth the gap is a menu decision rather than a purchasing one.

Why is the break price the only plastic cup price that matters?

Thirteen of the fifteen plastic cup products here carry a quantity-break price, and it only shows once you open the individual product page. It is not on the category listing, so most buyers never see it.

Eight of the products also publish a carton count, and for all eight of those the break lands at exactly one carton. For the other five that carry a break, the carton count is not published, so we are not going to tell you the break equals a carton when we cannot confirm it. What we can tell you is the quantity.

Savings are the break price against the single-unit price, rounded to the nearest whole percent. The sealing paper and the HDPE cup bag carry no published break.

A carton of ripple 12oz cups is 2000 cups at RM 158.00, which is a lot of cups and very little money. That is the shape of this whole category: the unit cost is tiny and the order quantity is large, so the saving comes from ordering in the right block rather than from negotiating the unit.

How do you work out the cost of one sealed cup?

What leaves your counter is a plastic cup plus a closure, and sometimes a bag. That stack, not the cup on its own, is your packaging cost per drink. It is a one-minute calculation with three inputs.

Step one. Take the per-cup figure for your cup from the table above.

Step two. Add your closure: RM 0.016 for sealing film, RM 0.079 for a dome lid, or RM 0.089 for a strawless lid.

Step three. Add a plastic cup holder if the drink leaves on a delivery rider: RM 0.098 for the double cup HDPE bag, or RM 0.188 for a two-cavity carrier tray. Either counts as a plastic cup holder in most supplier catalogues.

Run the three most common builds and the picture is clear:

On a RM 8 bubble tea, ten sen of food packaging is a little over one percent of the ticket. That is the number worth carrying in your head, because it tells you where the cup sits in your cost structure: it is not where your margin is being lost, and it is also not somewhere to cut at the expense of how the drink looks.

Plastic cup or paper cup: which is cheaper for a Malaysian drink counter?

The plastic cup versus paper cup question comes up constantly, and the answer is not close.

A sealed 16oz plastic cup costs about 31 percent of a paper cup and lid, and holds roughly twice as much. That is not a small difference and it is not a close call on cost.

What it is not, though, is a reason to put everything in plastic. Paper does something plastic cannot: it insulates, so a hot drink is holdable. It is also opaque, which reads as a coffee product rather than a cold one. The honest split is by drink, not by budget:

Use a plastic cup for anything cold or sealed. Bubble tea, milk tea, fruit tea, iced coffee, cold beverages of any kind, juice, smoothies, and anything with toppings the customer should see. These are your takeaway workhorses.

Use paper for anything hot. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate. A hot drink in a thin plastic cup is uncomfortable to hold and reads cheap, and neither of those is worth twenty sen.

Most Malaysian counters end up running both, which is why the two series sit next to each other in the food container and packaging range.

Are plastic cups recyclable, and what should you tell customers?

This question reaches a drink counter more often than it reaches a packaging supplier, so it is worth having a straight answer rather than a marketing one.

PP and PET are both technically recyclable materials. PET in particular is one of the most widely recycled plastics in the world, which is why the resin code 1 turns up on drink bottles everywhere. PP carries resin code 5 and is recycled less often. In practice, though, a used bubble tea cup has been through a drink: it carries sugar residue, milk, tapioca pearls and usually a sealing film or a lid in a different material. A contaminated, mixed-material cup is much harder to route into a recycling stream than a clean bottle, and collection infrastructure for food-service disposables in Malaysia is limited.

We have not published a recyclability, compostability or sustainable-material certification for them, and we would rather say nothing than put a green word on a page we cannot back with a document. The one thing in this range that genuinely reduces plastic per drink is the strawless lid, because it removes a straw from every cup. That is an arithmetic saving rather than an eco-conscious claim, and it is the only one we are going to make.

Can these plastic cups be printed with your logo?

Not from this range. Every cup here is plain, and custom printing is a separate service with its own artwork process and its own scheduling, rather than something you add to a stock order. If branding matters to your marketing, treat printed cups as a different purchase and plan the timing around it. A plain cup with a printed sleeve or a sticker is the cheaper route to the same shelf presence for a small shop.

Which plastic cup size fits which drink?

Plastic cup size in this range runs from 6.5oz to 22oz. If you are searching for a plastic cup 16 oz or a plastic cup 12 oz specifically, those are the two mid sizes and both sit on the 95mm rim.

If you are opening and can only stock two plastic cup sizes, stock 16oz and 22oz. Sixteen is what most people order and twenty-two is what you upsell to, and both take the same lid and the same sealing film, which halves the number of things you can run out of.

The 12oz has a specific job rather than a general one. It suits a lower price point on the board and it suits drinks that are rich enough that 500ml is too much, which in practice means the heavy milk-and-foam builds.

What should a Malaysian buyer check before ordering plastic cups in bulk?

A short checklist for any plastic cup supply decision, whichever plastic cup supplier your business buys from.

Match the rim before anything else. On a plastic cup and lid, 95mm is the standard here and 92mm is the exception. Cups and lids that do not share a diameter are two separate purchases that cannot be used together.

Convert everything to cost per cup. Packets of 50, packets of 100 and rolls of 100 are not comparable until you divide. This is where most bad purchasing decisions in packaging start.

Open the product page for the break price. Thirteen of these fifteen have one and the category listing does not show it.

Decide sealed or lidded, and commit. A sealing machine plus film is much cheaper per drink than lids, but it is equipment and a workflow. Running both means stocking both.

Count your storage. A carton of 2000 cups is a large volume of air. Cups are the bulkiest container you will order relative to their value, so a bulk buy that looks cost-effective on paper can be an awkward one in a small store room.

Consolidate the delivery. Plastic cup supply is light and bulky, most other stock is dense and heavy, and one drop beats three. Delivery in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur is free above RM 150 and a flat RM 20 below it, with courier or pallet rates elsewhere in Malaysia, so ask what else can travel with them.
