Oolong tea and jasmine tea in 1L: a ready to use tea base guide for Malaysian bubble tea counters

In F&B supply since 2013Klang, Selangor11 min read

A ready-to-use tea base is brewed tea supplied as a liquid in a sealed bottle, so a drink counter pours instead of brewing. Happypopper stocks sixteen of them in 1L bottles at RM 27.80 Ex Tax. The range covers oolong tea varietals such as Da Hong Pao, Tie Guan Yin and Jin Xuan, nine jasmine tea flavours, and a 1L espresso coffee base, wholesale from its Klang factory.
TL;DR: Oolong tea draws around 8,100 searches a month in Malaysia and jasmine tea 3,600, with Da Hong Pao at 5,400 and Tie Guan Yin at 1,600 on their own names. Our Coffee and Tea (Ready Use) series runs seventeen 1L bottles. Sixteen teas sit at RM 27.80 Ex Tax, 15 bottles per carton, and the espresso coffee base (CF-P0002) at RM 27.00, 10 boxes per carton, checked 19 August 2026. This guide covers brewing versus pouring, what each varietal tastes like, and the carton maths. Ask us in live chat before you order.

The tea is the drink. Everything else in a bubble tea cup, the foam on top, the pearls at the bottom and the syrup in between, is built around a tea base. That base decides whether a customer comes back. Google keyword data for Malaysia, checked August 2026, shows the scale of the interest. Oolong tea draws around 8,100 searches a month, jasmine tea 3,600, Da Hong Pao 5,400 and Tie Guan Yin 1,600.

Those numbers include tea drinkers as well as tea buyers. This guide is written for the buyers: shops deciding whether to brew leaves in-house or pour a ready-to-use base, and which varietal to put on the menu board.

What is a ready-to-use tea base?

A ready-to-use tea base is tea that has already been brewed and bottled as a liquid, supplied in 1L bottles for a drink counter to pour, dilute to its own recipe and serve. There are no leaves to steep, no timer to watch and no strainer to clean.

It sits between two other formats a shop might use. Loose-leaf tea, brewed from whole tea leaves, gives the most control and the most work. Instant tea powder is the fastest but tastes furthest from brewed tea. A liquid base sits in the middle: brewed character, pouring speed.

Brewing leaves versus pouring a base: what actually changes?

Brewing in-house is a real craft and plenty of good shops do it. What changes when you scale is not the quality ceiling but the floor.

  • Consistency. How long you steep, at what water temperature and with how many tea leaves all move the strength of a brew. A bottled base pours at the same strength every time, so the drink a customer had last Tuesday is the drink they get today.
  • Labour. Brewing, cooling, straining and holding tea is a job someone does before service and again mid-shift. Pouring is not a job.
  • Waste. Brewed tea has a service window. Batch too much and you pour it away; batch too little and you run dry during a rush.
  • Training. A new staff member can pour a base correctly on day one. Brewing consistently takes longer to teach than most shops admit.

The honest counter-argument: a base gives you less room to make a house style your own, and you are buying someone else's brewing decisions. That is exactly why you should trial a bottle against your current recipe before you commit to a carton, and why we stock varietals rather than one generic tea.

Which oolong tea varietal fits your menu?

Oolong tea is the partially oxidised category between green tea and black tea. All three come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, and what separates them is processing: how long the plucked tea leaves are left to wither and oxidise before the process is halted. A lightly oxidised oolong leans green and floral, a highly oxidised oolong leans dark and roasted, and that single variable explains most of the difference between the bottles below.

The history of oolong runs from the Fujian mountains through Taiwan, where the cultivars that now dominate milk tea were selected, and on into the modern bubble tea trade. Judging the exact moment to halt oxidation was traditionally the skill of a tea master, and the whole art of tea in this category sits in that judgement. A bottled base is that decision, already made and repeated at scale, which is the honest story of the format.

The varietal names on our bottles are the ones the tea world actually uses, and they carry their origins with them. Fujian gives us the Anxi and Wuyi teas, Guangdong the Phoenix Dan Cong, and Taiwan the cultivars. Malaysian customers who know Chinese tea will notice which one you chose.

  • Da Hong Pao (BT-TE011): Big Red Robe, the roasted rock oolong tea from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, deep and toasty. A famous Chinese tribute tea by reputation. It stands up to milk better than most, which makes it a strong milk tea base. It is also the single most searched varietal name in this range.
  • Tie Guan Yin (BT-TE023): Iron Goddess of Mercy, the classic lightly oxidised oolong tea from Anxi in Fujian, floral and orchid-like with a lighter body. Familiar to almost every Chinese tea drinker in Malaysia.
  • Jin Xuan (BT-TE017): the Taiwanese cultivar known as milk oolong for its naturally creamy, milky note. It is the varietal most associated with milk tea in Taiwan, and it needs less help from a creamer to taste rounded.
  • Dong Fang Mei Ren (BT-TE015): Oriental Beauty, a heavily oxidised Taiwanese oolong with honeyed, fruity character. A premium-tier menu item rather than a volume base.
  • Ya Shi Xiang (BT-TE016): Duck Shit Aroma, a Phoenix Dan Cong oolong tea from the mountains of Guangdong, with an unmistakable name and a distinctly floral, high aroma. The name alone earns menu-board attention, and the tea backs it up.
  • Osmanthus (BT-TE013) and Peach (BT-TE010): the scented and fruited oolong teas, for shops building a fragrance-forward or fruit tea line.

What can you build with nine jasmine tea flavours?

Jasmine tea is the other half of the shelf. Jasmine green tea is the base most fruit tea menus are built on, because its floral lift carries fruit flavours without fighting them.

We stock the plain Jasmine Tea Extract (BT-TE014) as the neutral base, then eight flavoured versions: Green Grape (BT-TE012), Lychee (BT-TE024), Mango (BT-TE021), Passion Fruit (BT-TE025), Peach (BT-TE018), Pink Guava (BT-TE019), Pomelo Blossom (BT-TE020) and Rose (BT-TE022).

The commercial logic is menu expansion without kitchen expansion. Each flavoured bottle is a drink you can put on the board without a new fruit prep, a new syrup or a new SOP. A counter running the plain extract plus three fruited bottles can list eight or nine tea drinks from four SKUs, and swap the fruit line seasonally without touching the rest of the menu.

How much does ready-to-use tea cost in Malaysia?

All sixteen teas share one price, which makes the range easy to plan. Prices Ex Tax, checked 19 August 2026 and subject to change with live discounting:

LineProductsPackPrice Ex TaxPer carton
Oolong tea, 7 varietalsBT-TE010 to BT-TE0231LRM 27.80RM 417.00 (15 btl)
Jasmine tea, 9 flavoursBT-TE012 to BT-TE0251LRM 27.80RM 417.00 (15 btl)
Espresso Coffee (10 Brix)CF-P00021LRM 27.00RM 270.00 (10 box)

Two things follow from a single flat price across sixteen teas. First, choosing a varietal is a menu decision with no budget consequence: Da Hong Pao costs the same as plain jasmine, so pick on taste and positioning rather than on cost. Second, testing is cheap. One bottle of each of four candidates is under RM 120 Ex Tax, which is a small price for settling your house tea.

To cost a drink, measure the base your recipe pours per cup and divide it into the litre. These are wholesale prices from direct factory supply with no distributor in between. We state that this structure puts our catalogue 50 to 70 percent below retail, explained on our why so cheap page. Every carton above clears the RM 150 threshold for free delivery to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Where does the espresso base fit?

The one non-tea item in this series is an Espresso Coffee base (CF-P0002) at 10 Brix, in the same 1L format at RM 27.00 Ex Tax, 10 boxes per carton. Brix is a measure of dissolved solids, so a stated 10 Brix tells you the concentration you are pouring rather than leaving you to guess.

It exists for the same reason as the tea. A drink counter that sells three or four coffee items a day does not need an espresso machine, a grinder, a tamper and a barista to make them. Ask us in live chat about how it fits your coffee line before ordering.

Why buy tea base from a supplier instead of a single listing?

A bubble tea counter buys a tea, a sweetener, a foam and two or three toppings, and it reorders all of them on the same cycle. A tea supplier that carries the whole cup lets you place one order and take one delivery, which matters more when your base product is the heaviest and most frequently reordered item on the list.

Happypopper is a registered Malaysian company with a physical factory, warehouse and collection point in Kapar, Klang, Selangor, supplying ready to use tea Malaysia-wide at wholesale prices, oolong tea and jasmine tea alike. The rest of the cup comes from the same catalogue. There is fructose syrup for the sweetness levels and milk foam powder for the cheese tea line. Below that sit the jelly and pudding powders and the frozen taro balls for texture. Customer service answers specification, stock and origin questions in live chat during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Self-pickup from the Klang factory is free, and delivery rates by region are on our shipping fees page.

The short version, and your next step

A ready to use tea base trades a little control for consistency, speed and a menu you can expand without new equipment. Whether you land on an oolong tea or a jasmine tea, the format is the same. Every tea in the range is RM 27.80 Ex Tax per 1L bottle or RM 417.00 per carton of 15, and the espresso base is RM 27.00, checked 19 August 2026. Buy one bottle each of three or four candidates, brew your standard drink from each, and let your own counter pick the house tea.

Frequently asked questions

What is ready-to-use tea?

Ready-to-use tea is tea already brewed and bottled as a liquid, supplied in 1L bottles so a drink counter can pour and dilute it to its own recipe instead of steeping leaves. It gives brewed character with the speed of pouring, and every bottle pours at the same strength.

What is the difference between oolong and jasmine tea?

Oolong tea is a partially oxidised category sitting between green tea and black tea, all made from the Camellia sinensis plant. Varietals like Da Hong Pao and Tie Guan Yin differ by cultivar, origin and degree of oxidation. Jasmine tea is usually a green tea scented with jasmine flowers. In drinks, oolong is the classic milk tea base while jasmine carries fruit tea flavours.

Which tea base is best for milk tea?

Da Hong Pao (BT-TE011) is a roasted oolong that holds its character against milk, and Jin Xuan (BT-TE017) is the Taiwanese cultivar known for a naturally creamy note. Both are RM 27.80 Ex Tax per litre. Trial both against your milk and sweetness levels before choosing.

What is Ya Shi Xiang tea?

Ya Shi Xiang, literally Duck Shit Aroma, is a Phoenix Dan Cong oolong from Guangdong known for a high floral aroma despite the name. Ours is a 1L ready-to-use base (BT-TE016) at RM 27.80 Ex Tax. The name is memorable on a menu board and the tea has a genuinely distinct character.

How do you use a 1L tea base?

In general terms the base is diluted to your own recipe, then built into milk tea, fruit tea or plain iced tea. Dilution ratios and handling differ by product, so follow the directions on the bottle you buy and ask us in live chat if anything is unclear before ordering.

How many drinks does one litre make?

That depends entirely on your dilution ratio and cup size, so it is a number you should establish on your own counter rather than take from a supplier. Pour your standard drink from a trial bottle, count the cups, and use that figure for costing.

Are your tea bases halal?

Halal-certified lines are available on selected products. Confirm the halal status of a specific product with us before ordering. Some of our food lines are manufactured in Malaysia and some in China, and we will tell you the origin of any product before you order.

Can I buy tea base borong for a bubble tea chain?

Yes. Wholesale ready-to-use tea is our trade format: 1L bottles sold individually through the cart and packed 15 to a carton at RM 417.00 Ex Tax. For repeat or multi-carton orders, ask in live chat and the team will advise the best arrangement for your usage.
