Soft serve ice cream powder in bulk: a buying guide for Malaysian cafes, kiosks and dessert bars

In F&B supply since 2013Klang, Selangor10 min read

Soft serve ice cream is the light, machine-drawn ice cream served straight from the nozzle, and in a commercial kitchen it starts as a powder or premix mixed into liquid and poured into the machine. Happypopper stocks 12 soft serve powders and premixes in 1kg and 1.5kg packs from RM 15.00 Ex Tax, in flavours from vanilla to durian, wholesale from its Klang factory.
TL;DR: Soft serve ice cream draws around 880 searches a month in Malaysia, with spikes above 3,000, and durian ice cream adds 590 more. Our Ice Cream (Soft) series runs three lines: E-Series premix 1kg at RM 15.00 in four flavours, 1kg powders at RM 29.00 to RM 29.50 in five flavours including durian and matcha, and 1.5kg powders at RM 35.00 to RM 39.00, plus mizuame syrup 2kg at RM 18.80, all Ex Tax, checked 19 August 2026. This guide covers the formats, the flavours and the carton maths. Ask us in live chat before you order.

A soft serve machine at the counter is one of the highest-margin corners of a Malaysian cafe or kiosk, and everything it produces starts from the same place: the mix. Google keyword data for Malaysia, checked August 2026, puts soft serve ice cream at around 880 searches a month with spikes above 3,000, soft serve at 480, and durian ice cream at 590. Demand is tropical and year-round, with no real off-season.

This guide covers the supply behind the swirl: what soft serve actually is, what the powder does, which flavours the market is searching for, and what a pack and a carton cost today.

What is soft serve ice cream?

Soft serve is ice cream drawn from the machine at a warmer serving temperature than scooped ice cream, with more air whipped into the mix as it freezes. That combination is what makes the texture light and the swirl hold its shape on a cone. It is the format behind the classic fast-food cone, the mall kiosk swirl and the cafe sundae.

The industry word for that air is overrun: the share of volume the machine whips into the ice cream mix as it is churned and frozen. Soft serve generally runs higher overrun and lower milk-fat than hard serve ice cream, which is why it tastes lighter and creamier at once, and why it melts faster on the cone. Inside the machine, the liquid mix waits in a storage chamber, is churned with air as it freezes, and is drawn warmer than freezer temperature, closer to a thick dairy texture than an icy one.

Because the machine does the freezing and the aeration, the product quality question moves upstream to the mix itself: what goes into the hopper decides the flavour, the body and the cost per serving. That is where the powder comes in.

What is soft ice cream powder?

Soft ice cream powder is the dry base for the machine: a pre-formulated mix that you combine with liquid following the pack directions, pour into the hopper, and draw as soft serve. The category page describes our E-Series premix as a just-add-water format, and the powders follow their own pack directions. Whichever line you run, the recipe work of balancing sugars, stabilisers and emulsifiers is already done at the factory, so every batch pours the same. The powdered mix format also wins on logistics: dry packs ship and store far more easily than liquid dairy mix, which is why powder dominates commercial soft serve supply.

Our Ice Cream (Soft) series runs three lines. The E-Series ice cream premix comes in 1kg packs at a single RM 15.00 price across four flavours, the 1kg powder line in five flavours, and the 1.5kg powder line in three. The lines differ in formulation and pack size, and the right one depends on your machine and your menu. Tell us both in live chat and we will point you to the fit.

Which soft serve flavours is Malaysia searching for?

Flavour choice is a menu decision, but search demand gives you the map. Durian ice cream draws around 590 searches a month in Malaysia, and our 1kg durian powder (IC-P0011) puts the king of fruits on a cone without fresh-fruit handling. Matcha rides the Japanese soft serve tradition, the same Hokkaido-milk-cone culture that gave ice cream work both matcha powder and mizuame. Sea salt is the E-Series answer to the salted-caramel-adjacent trend, and yogurt covers the tangy soft serve popular with froyo-style shops. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry remain the volume staples every counter needs.

  • E-Series premix 1kg: Base, Sea Salt, Strawberry, Vanilla.
  • 1kg powder: Base, Durian, Matcha, Strawberry, Yogurt.
  • 1.5kg powder: Base, Chocolate, Vanilla.

The operational play many kiosks run: keep one staple flavour on the machine at all times, rotate the second barrel by season or promotion, and let the base powders carry house-made syrup and topping variations from the same hopper.

The per-kilogram maths puts the E-Series at RM 15.00 per kg, the 1.5kg powders at RM 23.33 to RM 26.00 per kg and the 1kg powders at RM 29.00 to RM 29.50 per kg. The lines are priced differently because they are formulated differently, so do not judge on the kilogram price alone: trial the line against your machine and taste the result before committing to a carton. These are wholesale prices from direct factory supply with no distributor in between. We state that this structure puts our catalogue 50 to 70 percent below retail, explained on our why so cheap page. Every carton above clears the RM 150 threshold for free delivery to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

What is mizuame, and why is it in this series?

Mizuame is a Japanese starch syrup, literally water candy, a clear glucose-type syrup used in confectionery and ice cream work. Our Mizuame (IC-I0001) is labelled for ice cream use and comes in a 2kg bottle at RM 18.80 Ex Tax, 12 bottles to a carton. Very few suppliers in Malaysia list it at trade volume, which is exactly why it earns a place here. How it fits your recipe depends on what you make, so ask us in live chat about the product before ordering.

Why buy the mix and the machine side from one supplier?

A soft serve counter is a system: the machine, the mix that runs through it, and the cones, cups and toppings around it. A common buyer question in this market is whether a supplier sells the machine or just the powder. Our catalogue covers both sides of the counter. Splitting that system across marketplace sellers means three vendors to chase when something runs out mid-week. Our catalogue covers the consumables in one order, the wider F&B machine range covers the equipment side, and the sprinkles that finish a swirl come from the same warehouse. Ask in live chat about pairing the mix with the machine side before you buy either.

Happypopper is a registered Malaysian company with a physical factory, warehouse and collection point in Kapar, Klang, Selangor, a soft serve ice cream powder supplier with a full F&B catalogue behind it. Customer service answers specification, flavour and stock questions in live chat during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Self-pickup from the Klang factory is free, and delivery rates by region are on our shipping fees page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between soft serve and regular ice cream?

Soft serve is drawn from the machine at a warmer serving temperature with more air in the mix, which gives the light texture and the swirl. Scooped ice cream is frozen harder and denser. Commercially, soft serve is made fresh at the counter from a powder or premix run through a soft serve machine.

How do you use soft ice cream powder?

In general terms, the powder is mixed with liquid according to its pack directions, then poured into the soft serve machine hopper, which freezes and aerates it into soft serve. Directions differ by product line, so follow the label on the pack you buy and ask us in live chat if anything is unclear.

Do you have durian soft serve powder?

Yes. The Soft Ice Cream Powder Durian (IC-P0011) is a 1kg pack at RM 29.50 Ex Tax, 20 packs to a carton, checked 19 August 2026. It delivers a durian flavour line without handling fresh fruit, alongside matcha, strawberry, yogurt and base in the same 1kg powder range.

What is the cheapest way to run a soft serve counter?

In our series the E-Series premix is the entry point at RM 15.00 Ex Tax per 1kg pack, RM 300.00 per carton of 20, in four flavours. The powder lines cost more per kg and are formulated differently, so trial both against your machine and menu before deciding on price alone.

What is mizuame used for?

Mizuame is a Japanese starch syrup, a clear glucose-type syrup used in confectionery and ice cream work. Ours (IC-I0001) is labelled for ice cream use, in a 2kg bottle at RM 18.80 Ex Tax. How it fits a specific recipe depends on the product, so ask us in live chat before ordering.

Are your soft serve powders halal?

Halal-certified lines are available on selected products. Confirm the halal status of a specific product with us before ordering. Some of our food lines are manufactured in Malaysia and some in China, and we will tell you the origin of any product before you order.

Can I buy soft serve powder wholesale or borong?

Yes. Wholesale soft serve powder is our trade format: packs sold individually through the cart and packed 12 or 20 to a carton for cafe, kiosk and event volume. For repeat or multi-carton orders, ask in live chat and the team will advise the best arrangement for your usage.

Do you supply cafes, food trucks and event stalls?

Yes. The 1kg and 1.5kg packs suit cafes and kiosks running daily service, and cartons cover food trucks, event stalls and school canteens buying for volume. There is no trade account needed: order through the cart, and the RM 150 free delivery threshold for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur applies.
