Jelly and pudding powder in bulk: a buying guide for Malaysian bubble tea and dessert counters

In F&B supply since 2013Klang, Selangor10 min read

Jelly powder and pudding powder are dry mixes that a kitchen boils with water and sets in a tray, turning into grass jelly, ai yu jelly or flavoured pudding for drinks and dessert bowls. Happypopper stocks 11 of them in 1kg trade packs: eight pudding flavours from RM 21.80 Ex Tax and three jelly powders from RM 24.50, wholesale from its Klang factory.
TL;DR: Jelly powder draws around 720 searches a month in Malaysia and pudding powder another 170, both transactional, while grass jelly pulls 2,400 and ai yu jelly 1,000 on the consumer side. Our Jelly and Pudding Powder series covers eight pudding flavours at RM 21.80 to RM 27.50, two grass jelly powders at RM 24.50 and RM 44.90, and an ai yu jelly powder at RM 29.80, all 1kg, Ex Tax, checked 19 August 2026. This guide covers what each powder does, the flavour line-up and the carton maths. Ask us in live chat before you order.

Look inside any bubble tea cup or dessert bowl in Malaysia and two things keep showing up: a cube of jelly and a spoon of pudding. Google keyword data for Malaysia, checked August 2026, puts jelly powder at around 720 searches a month and pudding powder at 170, both with transactional intent. That is the pattern of a business buying supply rather than a customer buying a drink. Behind them, grass jelly draws 2,400 searches a month and ai yu jelly 1,000, which is the demand your counter is serving.

This guide covers the powder side of that shelf: what each type sets into, which flavours a Malaysian counter actually needs, and what a 1kg pack and a carton cost today.

What is jelly powder?

Jelly powder is a dry pre-mix that sets into a firm, sliceable jelly once boiled with water and left to cool. The product page for our grass jelly powder describes exactly that: add water and boil to set a firm herbal jelly. From one 1kg pack a kitchen produces trays of jelly, cuts them into cubes and portions them across drinks and bowls all day.

The alternative is buying jelly ready-made in tubs, which costs more per serving and takes fridge space. The powder route trades a boiling step for a much smaller storage footprint and a lower cost per cube, which is why high-volume drink counters run it.

It is also a versatile ingredient. The same mixture that sets a herbal jelly for a beverage will, at a different ratio, give a softer fruit jelly for a dessert cup. The flavour essence in the pack decides whether it reads as refreshing or rich. One instant powder, several applications on the same menu board.

What is jelly powder made of, and is agar agar the same thing?

A jelly powder is a complete formula: a gelling agent, sugar, flavouring and usually an acid such as citric acid. The gelling agent is the part that decides both texture and dietary profile, and there are four families in common use.

  • Agar agar, extracted from seaweed, sets firm and translucent, and it is plant-based.
  • Carrageenan, also from seaweed, gives a softer, more elastic set.
  • Konjac, from the konjac plant, sets chewier and holds its shape well in drinks.
  • Gelatin is animal-derived, which is the distinction vegetarian and halal-conscious buyers ask about first.

So agar agar is not the same as jelly powder. Agar agar is one possible thickening agent inside a jelly powder, while the powder is the mixed, ready-to-boil formula around it. For the exact composition of any pack we supply, check the label and ask us in live chat before ordering, and see the halal note in the questions below.

What is grass jelly, and what is cincau?

Grass jelly is the dark herbal jelly set from the mesona plant, known across Malaysia and Indonesia as cincau. It carries a mild bitter-herbal note against sweet drinks, which is why it anchors cincau drinks, milk tea, ais kacang bowls and Taiwanese-style dessert cups. In Malay, the powder itself is tepung cincau, and that is the term printed on our listings.

We stock two grass jelly powders, and their prices sit far apart: the (C) version (BT-P0021) at RM 24.50 Ex Tax and the original (BT-P0009) at RM 44.90, both 1kg, 20 per carton, checked 19 August 2026. Formulation, yield per pack and set texture differ between products in this category. Rather than guess at which fits your recipe, tell us the drink or dessert you are making in live chat and we will confirm the difference before you order. Both listings also show a lower per-pack price at 20 packs or more.

What is ai yu jelly?

Ai yu jelly is the pale, wobbly Taiwanese jelly served in iced lemon drinks, a lighter and more delicate set than grass jelly. It draws around 1,000 searches a month in Malaysia, which is real consumer pull for a product most drink stalls here still do not carry. Our Ai Yu Jelly Powder (BT-P0008) is a 1kg pack at RM 29.80 Ex Tax, 20 per carton.

Commercially it is a differentiator rather than a volume line. A lemon ai yu on the board gives a menu something the shop next door does not have, at a cost per cup that behaves like every other jelly.

Which pudding powder flavours does a Malaysian counter need?

Pudding powder works the same way as jelly powder, boiled and set, but finishes with a soft, smooth texture rather than a firm one. Sugar content and flavouring are already balanced in the pack, so the only ingredient your kitchen adds is water. It goes into pudding cups, sits at the bottom of milk tea, tops shaved ice and fills dessert bowls. Our eight flavours split into three working groups:

  • The staples: egg (BT-P0023) and caramel (BT-P0022) are the classic pudding profiles every counter is expected to have.
  • The fruit line: mango (BT-P0028) and strawberry (BT-P0027) carry the colourful, photograph-friendly end of a dessert menu.
  • The local and cafe favourites: taro (BT-P0026), matcha (BT-P0025), coconut (BT-P0024) and soybean (BT-P0020), the last of which lands in douhua and soy dessert territory rather than classic pudding.

A practical opening shelf is three: one staple, one fruit and one cafe flavour. Add the rest as your menu proves them. Note that the soybean pack is cartoned 10 per box while the other pudding flavours come 20 per box, so check the carton size when you compare order totals.

Costing a jelly or pudding line means going one step past the pack price: work out how many trays a pack yields at your recipe, then how many cubes or cups a tray gives, and you have your cost per serving. Trial one pack and measure that yourself before you order a carton. These are wholesale prices from direct factory supply with no distributor in between. We state that this structure puts our catalogue 50 to 70 percent below retail, explained on our why so cheap page. Every carton above clears the RM 150 threshold for free delivery to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Why buy jelly and pudding powder from a supplier instead of a single listing?

A drink counter does not buy one powder. It buys a jelly, a pudding, a topping and a syrup, and it buys them again next month. A jelly powder supplier that is also your pudding powder supplier lets you build that order once, in one delivery, and ask one team when a product behaves differently from what you expected.

Happypopper is a registered Malaysian company with a physical factory, warehouse and collection point in Kapar, Klang, Selangor, supplying jelly powder Malaysia-wide at wholesale prices alongside the pudding line. The rest of the dessert counter comes from the same catalogue: the frozen taro balls and red bean and purple rice toppings that share the same cup, and the gula melaka syrup that finishes it. Customer service answers specification, stock and origin questions in live chat during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Self-pickup from the Klang factory is free, and delivery rates by region are on our shipping fees page.

The short version, and your next step

Jelly and pudding powder are the cheapest way to put texture in a cup, and the flavour list is where a menu gets its personality. Budget RM 21.80 to RM 27.50 Ex Tax per 1kg pudding pack, RM 24.50 or RM 44.90 for grass jelly and RM 29.80 for ai yu, checked 19 August 2026. Trial one pack of each line, measure your yield per tray, then order the cartons that match your weekly service.

Frequently asked questions

How do you use jelly powder?

In general terms the powder is stirred into water to dissolve, brought to a boil, poured into a tray and left to cool until completely set before cutting. Ratios, setting times and whether a batch needs the refrigerator differ by product, so follow the directions on the pack you buy and ask us in live chat if anything is unclear before ordering.

Is agar agar the same as jelly powder?

No. Agar agar is a plant-based gelling agent extracted from seaweed, and it is one of several thickening agents a jelly powder can be built on, alongside carrageenan, konjac or animal-derived gelatin. A jelly powder is the finished formula: gelling agent plus sugar, flavouring and usually an acid. Check the pack label for what is in a specific product.

What is cincau in English?

Cincau is the Malay and Indonesian name for grass jelly, the dark herbal jelly set from the mesona plant. The powder form is tepung cincau, which is how our grass jelly powder is labelled. It is the jelly in cincau drinks, milk tea and ais kacang.

What is the difference between your two grass jelly powders?

They are two separate products at two price points: the (C) version (BT-P0021) at RM 24.50 Ex Tax and BT-P0009 at RM 44.90, both 1kg, checked 19 August 2026. Formulation and yield differ between products in this category, so tell us the drink or dessert you are making in live chat and we will confirm which one fits before you order.

What is ai yu jelly made from?

Ai yu is a Taiwanese jelly traditionally set from the seeds of a fig variety, giving a pale, delicate wobble usually served in iced lemon drinks. Our version is a 1kg powder (BT-P0008) at RM 29.80 Ex Tax. For the composition of the pack itself, check the label and ask us in live chat before ordering.

Is pudding powder the same as jelly powder?

They are made and used the same way, boiled with water and set, but they finish differently. Jelly powder sets firm enough to cut into cubes, while pudding powder sets soft and creamy for cups and spoons. Most counters carry both because they do different jobs in the same drink.

Which pudding flavours do you supply?

Eight in 1kg packs: egg, caramel, mango, strawberry, taro, matcha, coconut and soybean, priced RM 21.80 to RM 27.50 Ex Tax, checked 19 August 2026. Seven come 20 packs per carton and the soybean comes 10 per carton, so check the carton size when comparing totals.

Are your jelly and pudding powders halal?

Halal-certified lines are available on selected products. Confirm the halal status of a specific product with us before ordering. Some of our food lines are manufactured in Malaysia and some in China, and we will tell you the origin of any product before you order.

Can I buy jelly powder borong for a bubble tea chain?

Yes. Wholesale jelly powder and pudding powder are our trade format: 1kg packs sold individually through the cart and cartoned 10 or 20 per box for shop and chain volume. For repeat or multi-carton orders, ask in live chat and the team will advise the best arrangement for your usage.
